Hot Lava, Hawai'i Volcanoes NP, Hawai'i
Hot Lava enters the Sea. In order to witness this spectacle, we had to hike over the lava rocks for hours in the heat and back in the dark. But it was worth it and quite an experience. You don't see most of the lava until it flows into the sea, which creates a huge and often toxic cloud of gases. Be sure to talk to the rangers before you head out as often it is not safe to do so.
