Pelican, Pismo Beach, California
Coastal Pismo Beach has many things to offer, most of them not readily noticeable when passing through on Highway 101. It’s a beautiful little town with a pier and charming restaurants. But there is also a special highlight for bird watchers; a cliff hidden behind a hotel that is home to endless numbers of pelicans. The area is open to the public and if you can handle the sometimes pungent stench, you can get quite close to the birds and watch them. But please refrain from feeding them or interfering otherwise.
